Itinerary

  1. One more wander through Miyagawa Morning Market. Pick up last souvenirs or snacks for the road.

  2. 8:00 AM Breakfast + Coffee

Find a cafe in the old town area. Enjoy the mountain morning.

  3. 30+ traditional thatched-roof houses relocated from across the Hida region. Hands-on crafts — try woodcarving, straw weaving, or sashiko stitching. Set on a hillside with mountain panoramas. More immersive than Shirakawa-go's open-air museum. Budget 2 hours.

  4. 11:30 AM Lunch near Old Town

Walk or bus back to central Takayama. Final Hida beef skewer, ramen, or soba.

  5. 2.5 km trail along the eastern hills past 13 temples and 5 shrines. Quiet, forested, contemplative — a beautiful way to spend an afternoon. The trail connects to Shiroyama Park with views over the town. Mostly flat with gentle slopes.

  6. Castle ruins turned park at the end of the Higashiyama walk. Panoramic views of Takayama and the surrounding mountains. Cherry blossoms. Peaceful spot to end the walking.

  7. 4:00 PM Send Luggage to Kyoto

Ask hotel front desk to arrange Yamato Transport. Have Kyoto hotel name/address ready. Arrives tomorrow. Keep a day bag with one change of clothes.

  8. 4:30 PM Final Hotel Onsen

Last mountain onsen soak. Farewell to Takayama.

  9. 6:30 PM Farewell Dinner

Last night in the mountains. Go all out on Hida beef or find a quiet izakaya for hoba miso and local sake.
