Walking Routes

Hida River Promenade (Main Walk)

The essential Gero walk — flat, paved, cherry blossom-lined:

  1. Start at Gero Station
  2. Walk south to the river and Shirasagi Bridge (Gero Onsen Shrine here)
  3. Follow the riverbank to Gero Bridge — scenic views framed by mountains and ryokan
  4. Funsenchi open-air bath is at the south end of Gero Bridge
  5. Shirasagi Green Park — illuminated cherry blossoms at night

Onsen Town Loop

From the river, head up into the onsen town streets (Yunomachi-dori). Pass Kaeru Shrine, foot baths, souvenir shops, food stalls. The whole district is within ~1 km. Gentle incline away from the river.

Cherry Blossoms

Early-mid April is peak sakura in Gero. Your dates (Apr 8-10) should catch blossoms along the Hida River banks, on the Onsenji Temple stone steps, and in Gassho Village’s Saijiki no Mori hilltop forest. Evening illuminations at Shirasagi Green Park.
