Beat the crowds. Morning soak with mountain air.

- 8:30 AM Ideyu Morning Market
At the Gassho Village entrance. Local produce — tomatoes (Gero specialty), pickles, blueberries, handmade souvenirs. 8am-noon, April through November.
- 9:00 AM Gero Onsen Gassho Village
Open-air museum with 10 relocated gassho-zukuri (praying-hands) thatched farmhouses. Try ceramic painting, washi paper making, or watch shadow puppet theater. Cherry blossoms in the Saijiki no Mori hilltop forest. Budget 1.5-2 hours.
- 11:00 AM Keichan Lunch at Yamabiko
Gero's soul food — chicken marinated in miso/soy, grilled with cabbage at your table. Only found in this region. 50+ year family restaurant also known for hoba miso and river fish.
- 12:30 PM Gero Onsen Museum
Dedicated to hot spring science, geology, and culture. Includes a foot bath and a walking bath (stone foot massage path). Small but interesting.
- 1:30 PM Yumeguri Tegata Bath Hopping
Buy the wooden tablet pass (~¥1,300) at the tourist info center. Good for 3 different ryokan baths (12+ participating). Peel off one sticker per ryokan. Individual entries ¥800-1,200 each — saves up to 50%. Pick 2 today.
- 3:30 PM Shirasagi no Yu
Gero's oldest public bathhouse (~100 years), charming Romanesque facade. Closed Wednesdays — today is Thursday, so it's open. Towel ~¥200 extra.
- 4:30 PM Onsenji Temple
Hilltop temple to Yakushi Nyorai (Healing Buddha) who revealed the hot springs. 173 stone steps lined with cherry blossoms. Panoramic mountain views from top. Take it slow.
- 5:30 PM Snack — Yuami-ya
Ontama soft serve (ice cream topped with hot spring egg) at a foot bath spot. Soak your feet and eat ice cream.
- 6:00 PM Dinner — Hotel Buffet or Town
Buffet is included, but consider asking about skipping one evening to try Nakasa (former Michelin one-star soba) or hoba miso at Yamabiko.
- 8:00 PM Final Evening Onsen + Foot Bath Stroll
One more soak at the hotel. Pack tonight — checkout is 11 AM tomorrow.

- Gassho Village is uphill from town — 20 min walk or short taxi
- The 173 steps to Onsenji are worth it but take them slow
