Itinerary

  1. 7:30 AM Morning Walk — Sakae Area

Explore the streets around the hotel before crowds. Sakae is quiet in the morning — good for coffee and orientation.

  2. Nagoya's beloved coffee chain. Order any coffee before 11 AM and get a free "morning set" — thick toast, egg, and bean paste (ogura toast is the Nagoya special). A genuine local experience.

  3. Important Buddhist temple housing a 7th-century copy of the oldest Japanese chronicle. The temple gives the surrounding area its name. Incense, prayer, peaceful grounds. Free.

  4. Sprawling covered arcades right next to the temple. Over 1,200 shops — electronics, vintage clothing, anime goods, traditional crafts, street food. Nagoya's answer to Tokyo's Akihabara and Harajuku combined. More authentic and local. Great for people-watching.

  5. Nagoya's signature dish — crispy tonkatsu (pork cutlet) drenched in rich, dark hatcho miso sauce. Yabaton is the most famous chain for it. The miso sauce is sweeter and deeper than regular tonkatsu sauce.

  6. Housed in Toyota's original factory. Two huge pavilions: Textile Machinery (the company started in looms) and Automobile (from first cars to robots). Live demonstrations of actual working machines — looms weaving, robots assembling. Interactive and fascinating even if cars aren't your thing. Budget 2 hours.

  7. Near Toyota Museum. Former Noritake ceramics factory grounds, now a park with a craft center, gallery, and kiln. You can see how fine porcelain is made. Peaceful stroll through industrial heritage. Optional — skip if tired.

  8. 4:30 PM Return to Sakae

Subway back (~10 min). Rest at hotel or explore Sakae further.

  9. 5:30 PM Send Luggage to Gero (optional)

Ask hotel front desk to arrange Yamato Transport to Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Gero. Arrives next day. Or just bring bags — it's only a 90 min train ride.

  10. Nagoya's famous spicy chicken wings — crispy, peppery, addictive. Sekai no Yamachan is the original chain. Also try doteni (miso-stewed offal) and miso oden as sides. Great casual atmosphere.

  11. 8:00 PM Evening Walk — Sakae Nightlife

Sakae lights up at night. Oasis 21 glows, TV Tower is lit. Walk off dinner and enjoy the atmosphere. Pack for Gero when you get back.
